DUREAU: IN STUDIO

This is the first time George Dureau allowed himself to be taped during a photographic session. This video features Dureau's black model, Glen Thompson, and reveals the artistic symbiosis between photographer and subject. Dureau himself lit the studio set for this beautiful video shoot. The photographer at work is intense, crisp, and nurturing. The video permits viewers to see the creation of a photograph as a kind of ritual dance between artist and model. Photographic inserts of similar Dureau subjects as well as photographs resulting from this exact shoot with Glen Thompson punctuate this video of a photographer's studio on a rainy New Orleans afternoon.

DUREAU VERITE: LIFE, CAMERA, CANVAS!

A Mark Hemry and Jack Fritscher Documentary

In this verite-style video, George Dureau gives engagingly warm and revealing interview to American journalist Jack Fritscher who featured George Dureau in his 1994 book about Robert Mapplethorpe, titled Mapplethorpe: Assault with a Deadly Camera. Dureau speaks of his work on the verandah of his home on Dauphine Street, New Orleans. Edit includes approximately 30 inter-related Dureau photographs, drawings, and paintings. The viewer easily strikes up a relationship with Dureau's exuberant personality on screen.
